Teaching with the club

on Tue, 01/11/2011 - 17:35

Well it was another fun weekend of skiing, aren't they all?  The IAEA Ski Club went to Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm for the weekend and I was fortunate enough to go along as an instructor.  The Ausrian instructors, Gerda and Berny , are good about making me feel welcome. Holli also joined in the fun, but as a paying member.  The hotel was nice, and clean, although, the dinning area did have the feel of a church basement, but the food was good.  The ski areas were smaller than most of the areas I have skied in Austria.  The days were warm and pleasant.

Finishing 2010

December in Montana started with a bang, but was more normal at the end although it was still way ahead of any December I remember.  I spent everyday from December 17th through January 1st skiing Discover, I am now up to 26 days on the snow:) I had two more days on a snowboard and one on teles.

I worked every day the last two weeks of 2010, which is how I like it.  I did start the new year with a play day.  I instructed two girls, Gigi and Whilehmenia, most everyday those two weeks, they were students of mine last year.

Early season

on Thu, 12/16/2010 - 20:43

Ski season 2010-11 is off to a great start.  My first day was on November 28th at Discovery Ski Area, my home mountain.   The entire front side of the mountain was open and skied great.  There was about six inches of new snow on top of a nice little base.  I was telemarking, the most physically demanding of the three disciplines, and was whupped by the end of the day.  This was definitely the best November skiing I have had.

I started working for ski patrol the following Thursday and worked through the weekend.  We spent two days ski cutting.
